Well, the nice people at physio-line asked me to try out these new resistance bands to improve my fitness. Here's how I got on
First Impressions
First impressions were good, each band was individually wrapped, colour coded and came complete with a guide with exercises to get me started. The bands were 120cm in length, came in 4 different strengths and were skin friendly so no irritation. I also opted for the handles, which looked a little strange at first but easily slotted in place to each end of the band.
Ease of Use
After a quick warm-up I was ready to go: First exercise was the leg press. From a seated position, loop the resistance band around my feet and push down - just follow the pictures, so far so good. As I extended my legs forward, the bands increased in resistance giving the muscles in my legs a decent workout. After about a minute or so I really began to feel it working and I was only on the normal strength band (red)!
Variety
As I moved through the remaining exercises, I was surprised at how easily you can adapt many gym based exercises; bicep curl, triceps extension, thighs and bum (oops, am I allowed to say that?) using the resistance bands. Depending what exercise I was doing I changed the strength of the band to suit, stronger bands for bigger muscles, and back to the normal one for those smaller triceps of mine. The whole multi pack was quite light as well, making it ideal for travelling.
Value for Money
If I compare how much I used to spend going to the gym every month then these bands are great. I suppose you might want to replace your band occasionally, or buy a stronger one as you get fitter but they are still pretty inexpensive. They won't replace every aspect of your local gym or health suite, but for me, wanting a quick and easy way to stay in shape they will do nicely for now.
Conclusion
In conclusion, if you prefer to exercise from home or are looking for a cost effective way of keeping fit, these resistance bands should be high up on your list. Manipulate the bands in many ways to exercise the muscles you want, and progress through the difficulty levels to get fitter. Handles are an optional extra; it adds a little more length to the bands which would benefit the taller exerciser.
Happy workout!

Strength Guide
Yellow: This is the lightest band available and is most suitable for the elderly wanting to start an exercise routine. It would also be useful for those who are recovering from injury. The light band would be used to start off your rehabilitation strengthening programme.
Red: One of the most popular resistance bands and commonly used for pilates and general exercise. This is a great starting point for anyone beginning a resistance exercise programme. The red band can also be used in the second stage in your rehabilitation.
Green: This strong resistance band will assist in building strength within the working muscles. A common starting point for those wishing to improve muscular strength. Ideal also for gaining endurance fitness in the larger muscle groups.
Indigo: An advanced strength resistance band aimed at active individuals who wish to improve strength and introduce power. Highly effectively used in combination with the green band for smaller and larger muscle groups. This is ideal for the 'return to play' stage of your rehabilitation process.
Black: This band is used for extremely active individuals who have experience in strength and power training.
